Himalayan Views

I know some of you have been waiting for the mountain views. Two days ago I said out loud, “I don’t think I’ve taken enough mountain photos.” Today I am pretty sure I have. Somewhere near 2700 photos and video clips now. Many more vids than last time and no way to share those from here, so the sounds and activities that are best captured on film will have to wait until I m back. But here is a tiny taste of my favorite Himalayas. Click on any photo to see it larger.

Pretty Mountain #496 (Nima will be here shortly and will name this one for me)

Pretty Mountain #742 from somewhere in Solu

The Sherpa Goddess Khumbe Yul La. Also written Kumbila (closer to pronunciation), she overlooks and protects the Sherpa people of Khumbu (the Everest Region) and this mountain is sacred, thus no one climbs it. (Anyone out there with a wild hair will hear enough freaky stories to keep you from trying). The river below is the Dudh Koshi (Milk River) which flows from the Khumbu Glacier for Mt Everest.

Numbur Himal – another sacred mountain that is not climbed (more freaky stories). Taken near Phaplu, Solu

Mt Everest (don’t know where I took this. It looks the same from all the vantages in Solu and Khumbu I have ever seen).

Sunrise on Pretty Himalayan Mtn #285, from Namche, elevation 11,450.

Moonset  and sunrise over Kongde Ri from Namche

Thamserku (say: Tom-seer-koo) is one of my favs! It is the cover if my book. We caught it at sunset last time I was here. Sunrise was not quite as glorious, but the “Godrays” around here are fabulous! Can’t wait to process this one. Taken from Namche.
